MOSAIC ARTIST
You know you were meant to do something when you start it and just can't stop! That's what happened when I took a two-day class and made my first mosaic in 1999. In the year that followed, I created 50 mosaics and found myself selling pieces to shops and nurseries on Vashon Island and in neighboring Seattle. These early works included mosaic guitars, (love letter) mailboxes, bird baths and mirrors. A few years later I became a founding member of the Vashon Tile Guild, and my aspirations grew as our group completely transformed the island's Blue Heron Art Gallery with tile. The Blue Heron show brought invitations for more local work, and I jumped at the chances to create signs for the Burton Coffee Stand, McMurray Middle School, Pandora's Box pet supply and Frame of Mind frame shop. More signs, plus tables, floors, murals and pizza ovens began steering me toward a lofty goal to cover Vashon Island with mosaic, which I continue to pursue! In addition to creating signage and surfaces, I like to make free–standing mosaic sculptures, which can transform a home or garden space. I love a challenge, and enjoy working with business owners as well as private clients on home installations. I often collaborate with my friend, tile contractor Nadine Edelstein. Our unique combination of creative perspectives and production skill sets makes just about anything possible.
